Allen is a pioneer in reducing the administrative costs and burdens plaguing U.S. healthcare.
Allen’s desire to serve others took root in his youth, when he considered joining a seminary. His humanitarian impulses have never left him. One of his first jobs involved the healthcare industry. At that time, Allen was struck by the impact that administrative workloads, errors, and inefficiency had on the ability of clinicians to deliver high-quality care and of patients to access and pay for that care.
Allen began to envision how these administrative challenges could be solved. In 2004, he founded Signature Performance in Omaha, Nebraska, with one mission. He wanted to make healthcare administration more efficient and cost-effective to break down barriers to care and let physicians refocus attention on patients.
“We can lower costs, reduce roadblocks, and restore patients and clinicians to the heart of healthcare.”
From the start, Signature pioneered a new approach to hospitals’ and other healthcare systems’ administrative practices. This approach includes optimizing the use of electronic health records, the management of revenue cycle functions (e.g., medical coding and claims processing), and the adoption of innovative technology.
Signature’s approach improved performance and lowered costs for healthcare providers across the U.S., strengthening their finances and patient care.
Under Allen’s guidance as CEO, Signature became one of the nation’s only full-service healthcare administrative businesses, working with providers and payers in the public and private sectors. Their support of hundreds of clients has given Allen deep insights into administrative issues across the industry and the solutions that make the biggest impact.
Signature’s impact convinced Allen that he has a responsibility to share what he’s learned with people and organizations beyond his client base. Allen now serves on many of the industry’s most highly regarded association boards. He is also consulted as a thought leader in the healthcare industry, including by lawmakers working to lower healthcare costs and expand access to care.
Allen also created a three-point plan that any healthcare services provider can use to dramatically reduce its administrative costs and burdens. His vision for what the country’s healthcare can be is grounded in real-life solutions and results. He is passionate about spreading awareness of this innovative plan.
Allen’s passion and mission continue to be driven by an inherent optimism. At the same time, they are grounded in pragmatic solutions that support his vision for reviving the heart of healthcare nationwide.
“The challenges are big, but I’ve seen that they’re solvable across the healthcare industry. I owe it to providers and patients and the healthcare industry to try to help as many of them as I can.”
